Freshwater cultured pearls are harvested from mussels farmed mainly in China, and now to a lesser degree in Japan and the United States. A single 'triangle shell' mussel can typically produce 20 to 30 pearls in its lifetime through a skilled process of tissue grafting. We love the quality of these Grade AA freshwater pearls and see them as a classic, but they can also be used in a contemporary way, depending on the design.
